Wigan House
Wigan House, located in Coventry, England, is a historic mansion dating back to the late 18th century. Built in 1789 by wealthy textile merchant Thomas Wigan, the Georgian-style house served as the Wigan family residence for several generations. During World War II, the property was requisitioned by the British military and used as officer quarters.
Over the years, Wigan House has gained notoriety for alleged paranormal activity. Multiple witnesses have reported seeing the apparition of a young woman in Victorian-era clothing walking the upstairs hallway before vanishing. This spirit is believed to be Sarah Wigan, who died in childbirth in 1823. Staff and visitors have described unexplained cold spots, particularly in the nursery where Sarah passed away.
The library is said to be haunted by the ghost of Richard Wigan, Sarah’s husband, who reportedly committed suicide in 1825 after struggling to cope with his wife’s death. People claim to have seen books flying off shelves and the shadowy figure of a man pacing the room.
In the 1960s, a maid working at Wigan House reported hearing children’s laughter and footsteps in empty rooms. Others have experienced similar phenomena, with some attributing it to the spirits of Wigan children who died young.
The cellar is considered a paranormal hotspot, with numerous accounts of people feeling an oppressive atmosphere and sensing an unseen presence. Some have reported seeing a dark, menacing figure lurking in the corners.
Paranormal investigators have documented unexplained electronic voice phenomena (EVP) recordings in various rooms, particularly in the attic where disembodied voices and whispers have been captured.
