Trinity College
Trinity College Dublin, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, is Ireland’s oldest university. The historic campus, located in the heart of Dublin, has been a center of learning for centuries. Its iconic buildings, including the Old Library and Long Room, house priceless manuscripts and the famous Book of Kells.
The college has a long history of reported paranormal activity. One of the most well-known ghost stories involves the spirit of Edward Ford, a former Fellow of the college who died in 1734. His apparition has been seen wandering the corridors of Trinity Hall, often carrying books or papers.
Another frequently reported entity is the ghost of a former Provost, believed to be Walter Ussher, who died in 1615. Witnesses have described seeing his spectral figure in academic robes near the Provost’s House and in the college chapel.
The college’s Front Square is said to be haunted by the spirit of a student who died by suicide in the 19th century. Witnesses have reported seeing a shadowy figure walking across the square late at night, only to vanish into thin air.
In the Old Library, staff and visitors have reported strange occurrences, including books flying off shelves and the sound of footsteps when no one else is present. Some attribute these events to the ghosts of former librarians still tending to their duties.
The Berkeley Library, a more modern addition to the campus, is rumored to be built on the site of an old monastery. Staff working late have reported hearing chanting and seeing the apparitions of monks in the building’s basement levels.
