Tollymore Forest Park

Tollymore Forest Park, located in Bryansford, County Down, Northern Ireland, has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The park was originally part of the Roden family estate, with the iconic Gothic-style gate lodges and bridges constructed in the 1780s. The forest itself was developed in the 19th century, featuring a mix of native and exotic trees.

The park’s paranormal reputation stems from various reported ghostly encounters over the years. One of the most well-known spectral residents is the “Grey Lady,” believed to be the spirit of a woman who died tragically in the forest. Witnesses have described seeing her ethereal figure walking along the paths, particularly near the Shimna River.

Another frequently reported apparition is that of a young girl in Victorian-era clothing, often seen playing near the old stone bridge. Some visitors claim to have heard her laughter echoing through the trees, only to find no one there when they investigate.

The ruins of Clanbrassil Barn, located within the park, are said to be haunted by the ghost of a stable hand who died in a fire. Visitors have reported feeling sudden drops in temperature and experiencing an overwhelming sense of dread near the structure.

Multiple accounts describe shadowy figures darting between trees, particularly in the densely wooded areas of the park. Some hikers have reported feeling watched or followed, even when alone on the trails.

The Hermit’s Cave, a man-made folly within the park, is rumored to be a hotspot for paranormal activity. Visitors have reported hearing whispers and seeing unexplained lights near the cave entrance.
