The Suffolk Arms
The Suffolk Arms, located in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, dates back to the early 19th century. Originally a coaching inn, it served travelers along the London to Gloucester route. The building’s Georgian architecture reflects its historical significance in the town’s development.
Over the years, numerous ghostly encounters have been reported at The Suffolk Arms. Staff and patrons have described seeing the apparition of a young girl in Victorian-era clothing, often spotted in the upper floors and staircase. Some witnesses claim to have heard her laughter echoing through empty corridors.
Another frequently reported phenomenon is the ghost of a former landlord, believed to have died in the pub during the mid-1800s. He has been seen behind the bar, seemingly going about his duties as if still alive. Employees have reported feeling an unseen presence watching them while working alone.
The cellar is said to be a hotspot for paranormal activity, with reports of unexplained cold spots, strange noises, and objects moving on their own. Some staff members have refused to enter the cellar alone due to overwhelming feelings of unease.
In the 1970s, a séance was reportedly conducted in one of the upper rooms, leading to an increase in paranormal experiences. Guests staying in this room have reported feeling a presence sitting on their bed and hearing whispers in the night.
The Suffolk Arms has also been the site of alleged poltergeist activity, with reports of glasses shattering without being touched, doors slamming shut, and lights flickering inexplicably. These occurrences have been documented by both staff and patrons over several decades, contributing to the pub’s reputation as one of Cheltenham’s most haunted locations.
