The Spirit House
The Spirit House, located in Wychavon, Worcestershire, dates back to the 17th century and has a long history of reported paranormal activity. Originally built as a coaching inn, the building has served various purposes over the centuries, including as a private residence and a public house. The most well-known ghost story associated with The Spirit House involves the apparition of a young woman in Victorian-era clothing, often seen wandering the upper floors and staircase. Witnesses have described her as having long dark hair and a pale complexion, with some reporting a sense of sadness emanating from her presence.
Another frequently reported phenomenon is the sound of footsteps echoing through empty rooms and corridors, particularly at night when the building is closed to the public. Staff and visitors have also experienced sudden temperature drops and the feeling of being watched, especially in the cellar area, which was once used as storage for the inn.
In the 1970s, a group of patrons claimed to have witnessed glasses and bottles moving on their own in the bar area, seemingly defying gravity. This incident was documented in local newspapers at the time and has since become part of the building’s paranormal lore.
More recently, in the early 2000s, a team of historians researching the building’s past reported hearing disembodied voices and whispers while working in the attic space. They described the voices as sounding like a conversation between a man and a woman, though the words were indistinct.
