The Old Post Office

The Old Post Office

The Old Post Office in Liverpool, located on Victoria Street, was constructed in 1894 to serve as the city’s main postal hub. Designed by architect Henry Tanner in the French Renaissance style, the building features ornate stonework and a prominent clock tower. It operated as a post office until 1984 when services were relocated.

Throughout its history, the Old Post Office has been the subject of numerous ghostly encounters and paranormal reports. Staff and visitors have described seeing the apparition of a Victorian-era postman in full uniform, often spotted walking through walls or disappearing into thin air. Some witnesses claim to have heard the phantom sounds of mail being sorted and old machinery operating, particularly in the former sorting rooms.

Another frequently reported entity is that of a young woman in early 20th-century attire, believed to be a former employee who died in the building. She has been seen on the upper floors, often accompanied by sudden cold spots and an overwhelming sense of sadness.

In the basement areas, several people have reported feeling an oppressive atmosphere and experiencing unexplained touches or pushes. Some have described seeing shadow figures darting between the old storage areas.

The clock tower has its own spectral resident – a maintenance worker who allegedly fell to his death during the building’s construction. His ghostly form has been spotted near the clock face, and some claim to hear his tools clanking late at night.

Despite its closure as a post office, the building’s paranormal activity has reportedly continued, with security guards and maintenance staff reporting strange occurrences and unexplained phenomena throughout the years.
