The Old Hall Hotel

The Old Hall Hotel

The Old Hall Hotel in Sandbach, Cheshire, dates back to 1656, constructed on the site of an earlier 13th-century manor house. This Grade I listed building has a rich history, serving as a residence for local gentry and later as a coaching inn. The hotel’s Tudor-style architecture features exposed timber framing and intricate carvings.

Over the centuries, numerous ghost sightings have been reported at The Old Hall. One of the most frequently encountered spirits is that of a young woman in a grey dress, believed to be a former maid who died in the building. Witnesses have described seeing her walking through walls and vanishing into thin air.

Another notable apparition is that of a gentleman dressed in Victorian-era clothing, often spotted in the bar area. Staff and guests have reported feeling his presence and hearing footsteps when no one else is around.

The hotel’s cellars are said to be particularly active with paranormal activity. People have reported hearing disembodied voices, seeing shadow figures, and experiencing sudden temperature drops in this area.

One of the bedrooms, known as the “Grey Lady’s Room,” is associated with multiple ghostly encounters. Guests have reported feeling watched, hearing unexplained noises, and even seeing objects move on their own.

The hotel’s long history has also given rise to tales of a phantom coach and horses, occasionally heard rumbling through the courtyard at night. Some have claimed to see the spectral outlines of these ethereal visitors.
