The Manor House Restaurant

The Manor House Restaurant

The Manor House Restaurant in Sandwell, West Midlands, England, is a Grade II listed building with roots tracing back to the 16th century. Originally constructed as a manor house, it served as the residence for several prominent families over the centuries before being converted into a restaurant in the 1930s.

The building’s paranormal reputation stems from numerous reported ghostly encounters. Staff and visitors have claimed to witness the apparition of a young girl in Victorian-era clothing, often seen wandering the upper floors and staircase. Some believe she may be the spirit of a child who died in the house during the 19th century.

Another frequently reported entity is that of a male figure, described as wearing 18th-century attire, including a tricorn hat. This ghost has been observed in various parts of the building, particularly in the main dining area and near the fireplace.

Unexplained noises are common occurrences, with many reporting the sound of footsteps in empty rooms and corridors. Some staff members have described feeling an unseen presence watching them, especially during quiet periods or after closing time.

Objects have reportedly moved on their own, including chairs being rearranged overnight and place settings inexplicably shifting during service. Cold spots and sudden temperature drops have been experienced throughout the building, even on warm days.

In the 1980s, a local newspaper reported on a séance conducted in the building, during which participants claimed to have made contact with multiple spirits, including a former servant and a member of the family who once owned the property.
