The Botanic Gardens Museum

The Botanic Gardens Museum in Sefton, located in Churchtown, Southport, opened its doors in 1874. The Victorian-era building served as both a museum and lecture hall, showcasing natural history specimens and artifacts from the local area. The museum operated for over a century before closing in 2011 due to budget cuts.

Throughout its history, the Botanic Gardens Museum has been the subject of numerous ghost stories and paranormal encounters. Staff and visitors have reported unexplained phenomena, including the sound of footsteps echoing through empty corridors and the sensation of being watched when alone in the building.

One of the most frequently reported apparitions is that of a Victorian-era gentleman, often seen wandering the museum’s halls in period attire. Some witnesses claim to have seen him examining exhibits before vanishing into thin air.

Another recurring story involves the ghostly figure of a young girl, believed to be connected to a tragic accident that occurred on the grounds in the early 1900s. Visitors have reported hearing her laughter and catching glimpses of her playing among the displays.

The museum’s basement has been a particular hotspot for paranormal activity, with reports of sudden temperature drops, unexplained noises, and objects moving on their own. Some staff members have refused to enter this area alone due to the unsettling atmosphere.

In the years leading up to its closure, the museum became a popular destination for paranormal investigators and ghost hunting groups, who conducted numerous overnight investigations in an attempt to document the reported phenomena.
