Stirling Castle
Stirling Castle, perched atop Castle Hill in Stirling, Scotland, boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century. The fortress played a pivotal role in Scottish history, serving as a royal residence and witnessing numerous sieges and battles. Over the centuries, the castle has accumulated a reputation for paranormal activity, with numerous ghostly encounters reported by staff and visitors alike.
One of the most famous spectral residents is the Green Lady, believed to be the spirit of a servant girl who saved Mary, Queen of Scots from a fire in the 16th century. Witnesses have described seeing a translucent figure in a green dress wandering the castle’s corridors and disappearing through walls. The Pink Lady, another frequently sighted apparition, is said to be a noblewoman searching for her husband who never returned from battle. Her mournful figure has been observed in the castle’s courtyard and upper chambers.
The castle’s kitchen has been the site of eerie occurrences, with staff reporting the sounds of phantom footsteps and the clattering of pots and pans when no one else is present. In the chapel royal, visitors have claimed to hear disembodied voices chanting and singing, even when the building is empty.
Perhaps the most chilling tale involves the Highland Ghost, a kilted soldier seen patrolling the ramparts. Legend has it that his appearance foretells impending disaster or death. Castle guards have reported encountering this spectral sentry during their night rounds, only for him to vanish into thin air when approached.
