Standon Hall
Standon Hall, located in Stafford, England, is a Grade II listed building with a history dating back to the 16th century. The current structure was built in the 1910s as a private residence for the Pochin family. During World War I, it served as a hospital for wounded soldiers, and later became a care home until its closure in 2016.
The hall has gained a reputation for paranormal activity over the years. Staff and visitors have reported unexplained phenomena throughout the building. One of the most frequently encountered spirits is that of a nurse, often seen walking the corridors in her old-fashioned uniform. Some witnesses claim to have heard her footsteps and the rustle of her dress as she moves about the building.
Another commonly reported apparition is that of a young soldier, believed to be a patient who died in the hall during its time as a military hospital. He has been seen in various rooms, sometimes appearing confused or distressed.
In the basement area, people have reported feeling an oppressive atmosphere and sensing an unseen presence. Some have described hearing disembodied voices and experiencing sudden temperature drops in this part of the building.
The grand staircase is another hotspot for paranormal activity, with multiple accounts of a ghostly figure seen descending the stairs, only to vanish before reaching the bottom. Some visitors have also reported hearing phantom footsteps on the stairs when no one else is present.
The hall’s extensive grounds have their own share of ghostly tales, with reports of shadowy figures seen moving among the trees at dusk and mysterious lights observed in the windows of the empty building at night.
