Queen Alexandra Memorial Hospital
Queen Alexandra Memorial Hospital in Weston-super-Mare opened in 1928 to serve the local community. During World War II, it treated both civilians and military personnel. The hospital closed in 1990 and sat abandoned for years before being demolished in 2007.
Over the decades, staff and patients reported numerous ghostly encounters within the hospital’s corridors. Many witnessed the apparition of a nurse in an old-fashioned uniform roaming the wards at night. She was often seen checking on patients before vanishing into thin air. Some speculated this was the ghost of a dedicated nurse who died while working at the hospital.
In the children’s ward, both young patients and their parents described seeing a ghostly young boy playing with toys that would move on their own. The spectral child was said to comfort sick children, leaving them feeling peaceful after his visits.
The morgue was a hotspot for paranormal activity. Morgue workers reported inexplicable cold spots, the sensation of being watched, and medical instruments moving by themselves. One attendant claimed to see misty forms rising from examination tables.
Perhaps the most chilling account came from the operating theater, where surgical staff occasionally glimpsed a shadowy figure observing procedures from the corner of the room. When approached, the figure would disappear. Some theorized this was the ghost of a former surgeon, still keeping watch over his patients.
Even after the hospital’s closure, security guards patrolling the abandoned building reported hearing disembodied footsteps, slamming doors, and muffled voices echoing through empty halls.
