Prideaux Place, located in Padstow, Cornwall, is an Elizabethan manor house built in 1592 by Sir Nicholas Prideaux. The estate has remained in the Prideaux family for over 400 years, witnessing centuries of history and accumulating numerous ghost stories.

One of the most well-known spectral residents is the Green Lady, believed to be the spirit of Honor Fortescue, who was married to Humphrey Prideaux in the 17th century. She is said to appear in the Morning Room, often seen descending the main staircase or walking through the house carrying a bowl of flowers.

The house’s nursery is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a young boy who tragically fell to his death from a window. Visitors and staff have reported hearing the sound of a child crying and playing in the room.

In the kitchen, the spirit of a scullery maid is said to linger. According to legend, she took her own life after being dismissed from service due to pregnancy. Her presence is often felt in the kitchen area, accompanied by unexplained cold spots and the sound of pots and pans moving.

The ghost of Edmund Prideaux, a former owner who fought in the English Civil War, has been seen riding his horse across the estate grounds. Some claim to have heard the sound of hooves when no horses are present.

The Blue Room is said to be haunted by the spirit of a nobleman who was stabbed to death in a duel. Guests staying in this room have reported feeling an oppressive atmosphere and witnessing shadowy figures.

In the library, books have been known to mysteriously fall from shelves, and the sound of pages turning has been heard when no one is present. Some attribute this to the ghost of a former librarian who continues to care for the collection.

The Great Hall is said to be haunted by the spirit of a woman in Victorian-era clothing, often seen gliding across the room before disappearing through a wall. Staff members have reported hearing footsteps and whispers in this area when the house is empty.
