Preston Manor

Preston Manor

Preston Manor, located in Brighton, England, dates back to the 13th century. The current structure was largely built in the 18th century, with significant renovations in the early 20th century. The Stanford family owned the manor for over 200 years until 1932 when it was bequeathed to Brighton Corporation.

The manor has a long history of reported paranormal activity. One of the most famous ghostly residents is the “White Lady,” believed to be the spirit of a nun excommunicated from a nearby convent in the 16th century. Sightings of her have been reported in various parts of the house, particularly on the staircase.

Another frequently encountered spirit is that of a young woman dressed in gray, often seen in the upstairs rooms. Some witnesses have reported feeling a cold presence and hearing unexplained footsteps in empty corridors.

The manor’s basement is said to be haunted by the ghost of a murdered maid, with staff and visitors reporting uneasy feelings and sudden temperature drops in the area.

In the 1960s, a group of schoolchildren on a tour reportedly saw the figure of an elderly woman in Edwardian dress vanish before their eyes in one of the bedrooms.

Psychic investigators have claimed to make contact with various spirits in the house, including former servants and members of the Stanford family. Some have reported sensing a male presence in the attic, believed to be a former gardener.

The manor’s grounds have also been the site of paranormal experiences, with visitors reporting shadowy figures near the old well and unexplained lights in the gardens after dark.
