Pen-y-Lan Hall
Pen-y-Lan Hall, located in Ruabon, Wales, dates back to the 17th century and has a reputation for paranormal activity. The Georgian mansion was built in 1690 by the Myddleton family and later expanded in the 19th century. During World War II, it served as a hospital for wounded soldiers.
Ghostly encounters at Pen-y-Lan Hall include sightings of a young woman in Victorian-era clothing, believed to be Margaret Myddleton, who died in childbirth in the 1850s. Visitors and staff have reported seeing her apparition in the hallways and bedrooms, often accompanied by the sound of rustling fabric.
Another frequently reported phenomenon is the ghost of a World War II soldier, seen wandering the grounds and occasionally appearing in the windows. Witnesses describe him as wearing a military uniform and looking confused or lost.
The property’s cellars are said to be particularly active, with reports of unexplained footsteps, cold spots, and the sensation of being watched. Some visitors claim to have heard muffled voices and whispers emanating from empty rooms in this area.
In the main hall, guests have reported seeing the ghostly figure of an elderly man, believed to be a former owner, sitting in a chair by the fireplace. The apparition is said to vanish when approached.
Staff members have experienced objects moving on their own, doors opening and closing inexplicably, and the sound of children’s laughter echoing through empty corridors. These occurrences have led to Pen-y-Lan Hall’s reputation as one of Wales’ most haunted locations.
