Old Strutts School
Old Strutts School, located in Belper, Derbyshire, within the Amber Valley district, was built in 1909 as a secondary school. The building was commissioned by George Herbert Strutt, a wealthy local mill owner, to provide education for the children of Belper. Designed by architect George H. Widdows, the school featured innovative design elements for its time, including large windows for natural light and improved ventilation.
The school operated for nearly a century before closing its doors in 2007. Throughout its history, Old Strutts School played a significant role in the local community, educating generations of Belper residents.
Over the years, numerous ghost stories and paranormal experiences have been reported at Old Strutts School. One of the most frequently mentioned apparitions is that of a young girl in Victorian-era clothing, often seen wandering the corridors or peering out of windows. Some witnesses claim to have heard the sound of children’s laughter and footsteps when the building was empty.
Another commonly reported phenomenon is the appearance of a male figure, believed to be a former caretaker or teacher, who is said to roam the upper floors of the school. Visitors and investigators have reported sudden temperature drops, unexplained noises, and the sensation of being watched or touched.
In the school’s basement, people have reported feeling uneasy and experiencing a sense of dread. Some claim to have seen shadow figures moving in the darker corners of this area.
While many of these reports are anecdotal, the frequency and consistency of the accounts have contributed to Old Strutts School’s reputation as one of Derbyshire’s most haunted locations.
