Milntown Estate
Milntown Estate, located in Ramsey on the Isle of Man, dates back to the 16th century. The property was originally owned by the Christian family, with records showing their possession as early as 1511. The current mansion was built in the early 1830s on the site of an older house. Over the centuries, Milntown passed through various owners, including the McCrone family in the 20th century.
The estate has a reputation for paranormal activity. One of the most frequently reported apparitions is that of a woman in a green dress, believed to be Isabelle Senhouse, who lived at Milntown in the 18th century. Witnesses have described seeing her walking through walls and appearing in various rooms of the house.
Another recurring ghost is that of a young boy, often seen playing in the nursery or running through the corridors. Some speculate this could be the spirit of a child who died on the property long ago.
Staff and visitors have reported unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, and the sound of children’s laughter when no children are present. The library is said to be particularly active, with books reportedly moving on their own and the sensation of being watched while alone in the room.
In the grounds, people have reported seeing shadowy figures near the old well and feeling sudden cold spots in various locations. The ghost of a monk has also been sighted in the gardens, believed to be connected to the nearby Ballure Chapel.
The cellars of Milntown are said to be especially haunted, with reports of strong paranormal sensations and the appearance of mists and orbs in photographs taken there.
