Matlock Bath Pavilion

Matlock Bath Pavilion

Matlock Bath Pavilion, located in the Derbyshire Dales, was constructed in 1910 as a grand entertainment venue. The Edwardian-style building originally housed a theatre, ballroom, and concert hall, serving as a social hub for the spa town of Matlock Bath. During World War I, the Pavilion was used as a convalescent hospital for wounded soldiers.

Over the years, numerous ghostly encounters have been reported at the Pavilion. One of the most frequently sighted apparitions is that of a young woman in Edwardian dress, often seen wandering the corridors or sitting in the theatre. Witnesses have described her as having a melancholic appearance, leading to speculation that she may be the spirit of a jilted lover or a performer who met an untimely end.

Another recurring paranormal phenomenon involves the sound of phantom footsteps echoing through empty halls and unexplained knocking noises emanating from various parts of the building. Staff members have reported feeling unseen presences and experiencing sudden cold spots, particularly in the backstage areas and dressing rooms.

Some visitors have claimed to see the ghostly figure of a World War I soldier, possibly a patient from the building’s time as a military hospital. This apparition is often associated with feelings of sadness and despair.

The Pavilion’s basement has been a hotspot for paranormal activity, with reports of objects moving on their own and disembodied voices being heard. Some people have even claimed to feel invisible hands touching them while in this area.
