Market Tavern
The Market Tavern in Walsall, dating back to the 18th century, has a long history of reported paranormal activity. Located on Digbeth Street, the pub has been a focal point for locals and visitors alike, with its traditional architecture and cozy atmosphere. Over the years, patrons and staff have reported numerous unexplained occurrences within its walls.
One of the most frequently reported phenomena is the sighting of a ghostly figure believed to be a former landlord. Witnesses describe seeing a man dressed in Victorian-era clothing walking through the bar area before vanishing into thin air. Some have even reported feeling a cold presence brush past them in the same location.
The pub’s cellar has been a hotspot for paranormal activity, with staff members refusing to go down alone due to an overwhelming sense of unease. Reports of disembodied footsteps and the sound of barrels being moved when no one is present have been documented.
In the upper floors, guests have reported hearing the sound of children playing and laughing, despite no children being present in the building. Some have even claimed to see the apparition of a young girl standing at the top of the stairs, only to disappear when approached.
Objects have been known to move on their own accord, with glasses sliding across tables and pictures falling from walls without explanation. Staff members have reported finding items in different locations from where they were left, even when the pub was locked and empty overnight.
