Malet Lambert School

Malet Lambert School

Malet Lambert School in Hull, England was founded in 1932 as a secondary school. The main building was designed by architect T. Waddington in a neo-Georgian style. During World War II, the school grounds were used for air raid shelters and military training exercises. In the 1960s, additional buildings were added to accommodate growing student numbers.

Several ghost stories have emerged from Malet Lambert over the decades. Staff and students have reported hearing unexplained footsteps echoing through empty corridors late at night. In the old science labs, beakers and equipment have allegedly moved on their own or been found in different positions than where they were left.

The figure of a young girl in 1930s-era school uniform has been sighted multiple times in the main hall, often described as looking lost or confused before vanishing. Some believe this may be the spirit of a student who died in an accident during the school’s early years, though no records confirm this.

In the 1980s, a night security guard reported seeing a ghostly man in old-fashioned teacher’s robes pacing in the headmaster’s office. When he went to investigate, the room was empty and locked. Witnesses have also described sensing an oppressive atmosphere and feeling watched in certain areas of the older buildings.

The school library is said to be a paranormal hotspot, with books inexplicably falling from shelves and the sounds of pages turning when no one is there. A ghostly figure has been glimpsed between the stacks late at night. Some attribute this to the spirit of a former librarian who spent decades working there.
