Maes Artro Heritage Museum

Maes Artro Heritage Museum is located in Llanbedr, Gwynedd, Wales. The site was originally established as RAF Llanbedr in 1941 during World War II, serving as a training base for pilots. After the war, it continued as a military facility until 1995 when it was decommissioned.

The museum now occupies former RAF buildings, preserving the site’s aviation history. Exhibits showcase artifacts and information about the base’s wartime and Cold War operations.

Several ghost stories are associated with Maes Artro. Staff and visitors have reported unexplained phenomena, particularly in the old aircraft hangars and control tower. One recurring tale involves the apparition of a World War II pilot seen walking across the former airfield, sometimes described as appearing disoriented or searching for something.

Another legend speaks of ghostly engine sounds heard at night, reminiscent of WWII-era planes taking off and landing. Some witnesses claim to have seen spectral aircraft lights in the sky above the old runways.

In the museum’s main building, once the base’s officer quarters, people have reported cold spots, the feeling of being watched, and objects moving on their own. One specific account tells of a ghostly figure in RAF uniform seen briefly in mirrors or reflective surfaces.

The control tower is said to be a paranormal hotspot, with reports of disembodied voices and the sounds of old radio transmissions when no equipment is operating. Some visitors have described feeling an oppressive atmosphere in this area, as if reliving moments of wartime tension.
