Lupton House
Lupton House, located in Brixham, Devon, England, is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion built in the late 18th century. The estate was originally owned by the Lupton family, who were prominent local landowners and merchants. The house itself was constructed around 1793 by Charles Hayne Lupton, replacing an earlier manor house on the site.
Throughout its history, Lupton House has been associated with various ghostly occurrences. One of the most frequently reported apparitions is that of a young woman in a white dress, often seen wandering the grounds and corridors of the house. Some witnesses claim this spirit is the ghost of a maid who worked at the property in the 19th century.
Another notable spectral resident is said to be the ghost of a former owner, believed to be Charles Hayne Lupton himself. Visitors and staff have reported seeing a male figure dressed in Georgian-era clothing, particularly in the main hall and on the grand staircase.
The house’s cellars are also reputed to be a hotspot for paranormal activity, with reports of unexplained noises, cold spots, and an overwhelming sense of unease experienced by those who venture into the underground spaces.
One of the more dramatic ghostly tales associated with Lupton House involves the sound of phantom horses and carriages approaching the property at night, only for witnesses to find the driveway empty upon investigation.
Over the years, numerous individuals have reported experiencing unexplained phenomena at Lupton House, including the sensation of being watched, objects moving on their own, and sudden temperature drops in specific rooms.
