The Liverpool Empire Theatre, located on Lime Street, opened its doors in 1866. Initially a music hall, it was rebuilt in 1924 to its current grand design. The theatre has hosted numerous famous performers over the years, including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and The Beatles.

Several ghost stories are associated with the Empire. One of the most well-known is that of a former manager who allegedly haunts the theatre. Staff members have reported seeing his apparition in the wings and backstage areas, often described as a smartly-dressed man in period clothing.

Another frequently reported ghostly presence is that of a young girl, believed to be around 9 or 10 years old. She has been seen in various parts of the theatre, including the stalls and the backstage area. Some witnesses claim to have heard her giggling or felt her tugging on their clothing.

The theatre’s cellar is said to be particularly active, with reports of unexplained footsteps, cold spots, and feelings of unease. Some staff members have refused to enter this area alone due to the unsettling atmosphere.

There have also been accounts of a ghostly usher, seen patrolling the aisles during performances. Audience members have reported seeing this figure, only for it to vanish when approached.

Technical staff have experienced equipment malfunctions and strange occurrences, such as lights turning on and off by themselves, and props moving without explanation.

Despite renovations over the years, the paranormal activity at the Liverpool Empire Theatre continues to be reported by staff, performers, and patrons alike.
