Landguard Fort, situated on the southern tip of Felixstowe, Suffolk, has stood guard over the River Orwell estuary since the 16th century. The current structure, built in the 18th century, has witnessed centuries of military history and is now a museum and heritage site. With its long and eventful past, Landguard Fort has become a hotbed of paranormal activity and ghostly encounters.

Visitors and staff have reported numerous unexplained phenomena within the fort’s walls. One of the most frequently sighted apparitions is that of a Portuguese sailor, believed to have died during a failed invasion attempt in 1667. Witnesses describe seeing a man in old-fashioned naval attire walking along the fort’s ramparts before vanishing into thin air.

The fort’s magazine area is said to be haunted by the ghost of a Victorian-era soldier who allegedly committed suicide. People have reported feeling an overwhelming sense of sadness and hearing disembodied footsteps in this section of the fort.

In the barracks, the spirit of a young drummer boy is said to roam the corridors. Visitors have reported hearing the faint sound of a drum beating, only for it to stop abruptly when investigated. Some have even claimed to see the boy’s apparition, dressed in a red coat and carrying his instrument.

The fort’s tunnels are another paranormal hotspot, with reports of shadowy figures darting across passageways and the sensation of being watched by unseen presences. Cold spots and sudden temperature drops are commonly experienced in these underground areas.
