King’s Head
The King’s Head pub in Five Lanes, Cornwall, dates back to the 16th century and has a rich history of reported paranormal activity. Originally a coaching inn, the building served travelers along the main road between Launceston and Bodmin for centuries. Its thick stone walls and low ceilings are typical of the era’s architecture.
According to local lore, the pub is home to several ghosts. The most frequently reported apparition is that of a young girl, believed to be around 8 years old, who has been seen by staff and patrons alike. Witnesses describe her as wearing a white dress and having long, dark hair. She is often spotted in the bar area and upstairs rooms.
Another recurring ghostly figure is that of an elderly man, said to be a former landlord of the pub. He has been observed sitting in a particular corner of the bar, sometimes vanishing when approached. Staff members have reported feeling his presence and hearing footsteps when the pub is empty.
Unexplained phenomena such as objects moving on their own, doors opening and closing without human intervention, and sudden temperature drops have been documented over the years. Some visitors have reported feeling unseen hands touch them or tug on their clothing.
In the 1980s, a paranormal investigation conducted at the King’s Head recorded unexplained voices and anomalous sounds on audio equipment. Psychics who have visited the location claim to have sensed multiple spirits, including that of a former servant who allegedly died in the building.
The pub’s cellar is said to be a particular hotspot for paranormal activity, with staff reporting an overwhelming sense of unease and witnessing shadow figures in this area. Some have refused to enter the cellar alone due to these experiences.
