Hog’s Head
The Hog’s Head pub in Wolverhampton, located on Stafford Street, dates back to the 18th century and has a rich history of paranormal activity. Originally built as a coaching inn, the establishment has witnessed numerous ghostly encounters over the years. One of the most frequently reported apparitions is that of a former landlord, believed to be from the Victorian era, who is often seen wandering the bar area in period attire.
Staff and patrons have reported hearing unexplained footsteps and the sound of glass clinking when the pub is empty. In the cellar, many have experienced sudden temperature drops and an overwhelming sense of unease. Some have even claimed to feel an unseen presence brushing past them while working in this area.
A tragic tale from the pub’s past involves a young barmaid who allegedly fell to her death from an upper window. Her spirit is said to linger in the building, with witnesses describing a misty female figure appearing near the staircase and in the upstairs rooms.
During World War II, the Hog’s Head served as a makeshift shelter during air raids. Visitors have reported hearing phantom air raid sirens and the muffled sounds of people in distress, believed to be residual hauntings from this turbulent period.
Another recurring phenomenon is the appearance of a spectral cat, often seen darting across the floor or curled up by the fireplace, only to vanish when approached. This ghostly feline is thought to be connected to the pub’s early days as a coaching inn.
