Hinchingbrooke House
Hinchingbrooke House, located in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, England, has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. Originally a nunnery, it was converted into a private residence after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s. The house has been home to several prominent families, including the Cromwells and the Montagues.
Numerous ghostly encounters have been reported at Hinchingbrooke House over the years. One of the most frequently sighted apparitions is that of a nun, believed to be connected to the property’s monastic past. Witnesses have described seeing her gliding through corridors and disappearing through walls.
The ghost of a young girl named Rebekah has been reported in the Cromwell Room. According to accounts, she appears wearing a white dress and has long, dark hair. Visitors have reported feeling a cold presence and hearing unexplained footsteps in this area.
In the Long Gallery, staff and visitors have reported seeing the apparition of a tall man dressed in hunting attire. Some believe this to be the ghost of a former owner, possibly from the Montagu family.
The White Lady is another frequently reported spirit, often seen in the grounds of the house. Witnesses have described her as wearing a flowing white gown and appearing to float above the ground.
Unexplained phenomena such as doors opening and closing on their own, objects moving without explanation, and sudden temperature drops have been reported throughout the building. Some visitors have also claimed to hear disembodied voices and footsteps when no one else is present.
