Great Fulford Manor

Great Fulford Manor

Great Fulford Manor, located in Teignbridge, Devon, is a grand Tudor mansion with roots dating back to the 12th century. The Fulford family has continuously occupied the estate since 1190, making it one of the oldest family-owned properties in England. The current manor house was built in the early 16th century, with later additions and modifications.

The manor has a reputation for paranormal activity, with numerous ghost sightings reported over the years. One of the most frequently encountered spirits is that of a young girl, believed to be the daughter of a former owner. Visitors and staff have reported seeing her apparition in various parts of the house, often accompanied by the sound of childlike laughter.

Another well-documented ghostly presence is that of a Cavalier soldier from the English Civil War era. Witnesses have described seeing a man in 17th-century attire walking through walls and disappearing into thin air. This spirit is thought to be connected to the manor’s history during the conflict, as the Fulford family supported the Royalist cause.

The manor’s library is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former family member who was an avid reader. Staff members have reported books mysteriously falling from shelves and the sound of pages turning when no one is present.

In the grounds surrounding the manor, visitors have reported encounters with a phantom horse and rider, believed to be a past owner of the estate. The spectral figure has been seen galloping across the fields before vanishing into the mist.
