Glasnevin Cemetery
Glasnevin Cemetery, established in 1832, is Ireland’s largest and most historically significant burial ground. Located in Dublin, it spans 124 acres and contains over 1.5 million graves. The cemetery was founded by Daniel O’Connell as a place where people of all faiths could bury their dead.
Numerous notable Irish figures are interred here, including Daniel O’Connell himself, Charles Stewart Parnell, and Michael Collins. The cemetery’s rich history and Gothic architecture have contributed to its reputation for paranormal activity.
One of the most famous ghost stories associated with Glasnevin Cemetery involves a Newfoundland dog named Oisin. The loyal canine allegedly guarded his master’s grave for 12 years after death, and his spirit is said to still roam the grounds, protecting the deceased.
The ghost of a young girl named Mary has been reported near the children’s burial area. Witnesses claim to have seen her playing among the headstones or heard her laughter echoing through the cemetery at night.
Some visitors have reported encountering the specter of a gravedigger, believed to be a former employee who continues his work in the afterlife. Others have described seeing shadowy figures moving between gravestones and hearing unexplained footsteps.
The Watchtowers, built to deter body snatchers in the 19th century, are said to be hotspots for paranormal activity. Guards have reported strange noises and unexplained cold spots in these areas.
Glasnevin’s most infamous ghost is that of a man known as the “Fiery Jack.” This entity is described as a glowing figure seen darting between graves, leaving witnesses feeling uneasy and disoriented.
