Exchange Vaults

Exchange Vaults

The Exchange Vaults, located in Queen Square, Wolverhampton, is a historic pub with roots dating back to the 18th century. Originally part of the old Town Hall building, it has served as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike for generations. The pub’s cellar is believed to be even older, possibly dating to the 16th century.

Over the years, numerous ghostly encounters have been reported at the Exchange Vaults. Staff and patrons have described seeing the apparition of a young girl in Victorian-era clothing, often spotted in the pub’s main bar area. Some witnesses claim to have heard her giggling or felt a cold presence brush past them.

Another frequently reported entity is that of a former landlord, said to still keep watch over his old establishment. Employees have recounted instances of glasses moving on their own, doors slamming shut without explanation, and the sensation of being watched when alone in the building.

The cellar has been a particular hotspot for paranormal activity. Several people have reported hearing disembodied footsteps echoing through the underground space when no one else was present. Some have even claimed to see shadowy figures darting between the barrels and storage areas.

One of the most chilling accounts involves a group of patrons who reportedly saw a man in old-fashioned attire walk through a solid wall near the bar. When they inquired about the strange occurrence, they were shown historical photos of the building, revealing that a doorway had once existed in that exact location.
