The castle’s long history has given rise to numerous ghost stories and reported paranormal encounters. One of the most well-known spectral residents is said to be the piper of Culzean. According to legend, when a piper was sent to explore the caves beneath the castle, he never returned. His ghostly pipes are still heard echoing through the castle grounds on stormy nights.

Another frequently reported apparition is that of a young woman in a ball gown, believed to be a former resident of the castle.
