Craigievar Castle, located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is a picturesque pink-hued fortress dating back to the early 17th century. Completed around 1626 by the Forbes family, the castle is an excellent example of Scottish Baronial architecture. Its distinctive salmon-pink color is the result of a harling process using local crushed granite.

The castle’s history is closely tied to the Forbes clan, who owned and occupied it for over 350 years. William Forbes, known as “Danzig Willie” due to his successful trading ventures in Poland, purchased the partially completed castle in 1610 and finished its construction. The Forbes family continued to live in the castle until 1963 when it was gifted to the National Trust for Scotland.

Craigievar Castle has a reputation for being haunted, with several documented ghost stories associated with the property. One of the most famous tales involves the “Blue Laird,” said to be the spirit of Sir John Forbes, who is reported to wander the castle’s corridors at night. Another legend speaks of a young musician who was pushed from the castle’s tower by a member of the Gordon clan during a feud with the Forbes family.

Visitors have reported strange occurrences, including unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, and eerie sensations of being watched. The castle’s Great Hall is said to be a particular hotspot for paranormal activity, with some guests claiming to have seen apparitions and felt sudden temperature drops.
