Castle Leslie

Castle Leslie, located in County Monaghan, Ireland, was built in the 1660s by the Leslie family and has remained in their possession for generations. The castle’s rich history is intertwined with numerous ghostly tales that have been passed down through the years.

One of the most well-known spectral residents is Norman Leslie, who died in World War I. Family members and guests have reported seeing his ghost wandering the Red Room, often appearing to be searching for something. Some claim to have witnessed him walking through walls or vanishing into thin air.

Lady Constance Leslie, known for her love of music, is said to haunt the Mauve Room. Visitors have reported hearing phantom piano music emanating from the room, even when no one is present. Others have described feeling a sudden chill or sensing an unseen presence while in the chamber.

The castle’s basement is reputed to be home to a mysterious monk-like figure. Staff and guests have recounted encounters with this apparition, describing it as wearing a dark robe and cowl. Some have felt an overwhelming sense of unease in the basement area, attributing it to the monk’s presence.

In the castle’s gallery, people have reported seeing the ghostly figure of a young boy running and playing. This spirit is believed to be Charles Leslie, who tragically drowned in the castle’s lake at a young age.

The castle’s grounds are not exempt from paranormal activity. Visitors have described seeing a shadowy figure near the lake, believed to be the ghost of an Italian soldier who allegedly drowned there during World War II while the castle served as a billet for troops.
