Castle House

Castle House

Castle House in Buckingham dates back to the 16th century and was originally built as a coaching inn. The building’s history is intertwined with the town’s development, serving various purposes over the centuries. During the English Civil War, it was used as a royalist stronghold. In the 18th century, it became a private residence and underwent significant renovations.

The house gained notoriety for its alleged paranormal activity. One of the most frequently reported apparitions is that of a young girl in Victorian-era clothing, often seen wandering the corridors or peering out of windows. Witnesses have described her as having a sad expression and sometimes vanishing into walls.

Another recurring ghost story involves a male figure, believed to be a former innkeeper, who appears in the old bar area. Staff and visitors have reported feeling an unseen presence and hearing footsteps when no one else is around.

The cellar is said to be particularly active, with reports of cold spots, unexplained noises, and objects moving on their own. Some have claimed to hear muffled conversations and the clinking of glasses, as if a spectral gathering were taking place.

In the upper floors, there have been accounts of doors opening and closing by themselves, and the sound of children’s laughter echoing through empty rooms. Some guests have reported waking up to find an indentation on their bed, as if someone were sitting there.

The building’s long history and reported paranormal experiences have made Castle House a subject of interest for those intrigued by the supernatural.
