Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle stands in the heart of Wales’ capital city, with a history spanning nearly 2,000 years. Originally a Roman fort in the 1st century AD, it evolved into a Norman keep in the 11th century under Robert Fitzhamon. The castle underwent significant expansions and renovations over the centuries, particularly during the Victorian era when the 3rd Marquess of Bute transformed it into a Gothic Revival masterpiece.

The castle’s long history has given rise to numerous ghost stories. One of the most famous spectral residents is said to be the 2nd Marquess of Bute, who allegedly appears in the castle’s library. Witnesses have reported seeing a shadowy figure moving books and rearranging items on the shelves.

The castle’s clock tower is reportedly haunted by the spirits of two women. One is believed to be a maid who died in a fire, while the other is said to be Lady Charlotte, wife of the 2nd Marquess. Visitors have reported hearing unexplained footsteps and seeing apparitions in this area.

In the castle’s chapel, people have claimed to see the ghost of a faceless woman in a long dress. Some believe this to be the spirit of a former servant who met an untimely end within the castle walls.

The Norman keep, the oldest part of the castle, is said to be haunted by the ghost of a soldier. Visitors have reported feeling an unseen presence and hearing the sound of marching footsteps echoing through the stone corridors.

Staff and visitors alike have reported other paranormal occurrences throughout the castle, including sudden temperature drops, unexplained noises, and objects moving on their own.
