Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital

Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital

The Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, operated from 1915 to 1985. Originally established as a convalescent home for Canadian soldiers during World War I, it later expanded to treat civilians and became a general hospital. The facility played a crucial role during World War II, treating both military personnel and civilians affected by the conflict.

Over the years, numerous ghostly encounters have been reported at the hospital. Staff and patients have described seeing the apparition of a nurse in a vintage uniform walking through the corridors, particularly in the older parts of the building. Some witnesses claim she appears to be checking on patients before vanishing into thin air.

Another frequently reported phenomenon is the sound of children’s laughter and footsteps echoing through empty wards, especially in areas that once housed the pediatric unit. Visitors have also reported feeling unseen hands touching them or tugging at their clothes in these areas.

The operating theater has been a hotspot for paranormal activity, with accounts of surgical instruments moving on their own and the lingering scent of ether long after the hospital’s closure. Some night staff reported hearing the sound of a gurney being wheeled down the hallway, only to find the corridor empty upon investigation.

In the basement area, witnesses have described encountering a dark, shadowy figure that seems to observe people before disappearing. This entity is often associated with a sudden drop in temperature and a feeling of unease among those who experience it.
