Caldicot Castle

Caldicot Castle

Caldicot Castle in Monmouthshire, Wales dates back to the 13th century. It was originally built by Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford, as a fortress to guard the Welsh border. The castle changed hands multiple times over the centuries, falling into ruin before being restored in the 20th century.

Several ghost stories are associated with Caldicot Castle. One of the most well-known is the apparition of a young girl seen in the courtyard. Witnesses have reported seeing her playing or skipping before she vanishes. Some believe she may be the spirit of a child who died at the castle centuries ago.

Another frequently reported phenomenon is the sound of phantom footsteps echoing through the corridors, particularly at night. Staff and visitors have described hearing these disembodied footsteps when no one else is present in the area.

The castle’s great hall is said to be haunted by the ghost of a man in Tudor-era clothing. He has been spotted sitting in a chair or walking across the room before disappearing. Some speculate this could be the spirit of a former castle resident from the 16th century.

In the castle’s towers, people have reported feeling sudden cold spots and an overwhelming sense of being watched. Unexplained mists and orbs have also been captured in photographs taken in these areas.

The kitchen area is another paranormal hotspot, with reports of objects moving on their own and the smell of cooking food when the kitchen is empty. Some believe this could be the ghost of a former castle cook continuing their duties in the afterlife.
