Caerleon Campus – University Of South Wales

Caerleon Campus, formerly part of the University of South Wales, is located in the historic town of Caerleon, Newport. The site has a rich history dating back to Roman times, as it sits near the remains of a significant Roman fortress. The campus itself was established in the 1910s as a teacher training college.

Over the years, numerous ghostly encounters have been reported on the campus grounds. One of the most frequent sightings is that of a Roman soldier, often seen patrolling the area near the old amphitheater. Students and staff have described seeing his translucent figure in full armor, particularly during the early morning hours.

Another well-known apparition is the “Gray Lady,” believed to be the ghost of a nurse from World War I when the site served as a military hospital. Witnesses have reported seeing her in the corridors of the older buildings, sometimes appearing to tend to invisible patients.

In the campus library, books have reportedly been seen moving on their own, and the sound of footsteps has been heard when no one else is present. Some students have claimed to feel an unseen presence watching them while studying late at night.

The campus theater has been the site of several paranormal experiences, including unexplained cold spots, disembodied voices, and the sensation of being touched by invisible hands. Actors and stagehands have reported props moving without explanation and lights flickering during rehearsals.

In the student accommodation areas, particularly in the older buildings, residents have reported hearing strange noises, seeing shadowy figures, and experiencing unexplained temperature drops in their rooms.
