Bodelwyddan Castle
Bodelwyddan Castle, located in Denbighshire, Wales, dates back to the 15th century. The current structure was largely rebuilt in the 1830s by Sir John Hay Williams. During World War I, the castle served as a recuperation hospital for wounded soldiers. Later, it housed a girls’ private school.
The castle has a reputation for paranormal activity. Visitors and staff have reported numerous ghostly encounters over the years. One of the most frequently sighted apparitions is that of a soldier in a World War I uniform, often seen in the Sculpture Gallery and trenches. This ghost is believed to be connected to the castle’s wartime history.
Another commonly reported entity is the Blue Lady, thought to be the spirit of a woman who died of a broken heart. She is said to wander the corridors, leaving behind the scent of perfume. In the Victorian Tea Room, witnesses have described seeing the ghost of an elderly woman sitting at one of the tables.
The castle’s Toy Room is said to be haunted by the spirit of a young girl. Visitors have reported hearing children’s laughter and seeing toys move on their own. In the library, books have allegedly been seen flying off shelves, and the ghost of a man in Victorian dress has been spotted.
Other reported phenomena include unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing by themselves, and sudden temperature drops. The cellar is particularly known for its eerie atmosphere, with some visitors claiming to feel an unseen presence or experiencing a sense of unease.
