Beaulieu Palace House
Beaulieu Palace House, located in Hampshire, England, has a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it was founded as Beaulieu Abbey. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the estate was purchased by Sir Thomas Wriothesley, and the Palace House was built in the 16th century incorporating parts of the original gatehouse.
The house is known for its numerous ghost sightings and paranormal activities. One of the most frequently reported apparitions is that of Lady Isabella Beaulieu, who lived in the house during the 17th century. Visitors and staff have claimed to see her ghostly figure walking through the halls and gardens, often accompanied by the scent of jasmine perfume.
Another well-documented ghost is that of a monk, believed to be from the original abbey. Witnesses have reported seeing him in the Beaulieu grounds, particularly near the ruins of the old abbey church. Some have described hearing the sound of chanting or prayers when no one else is present.
The Palace House’s Victorian Kitchen is said to be haunted by the spirit of a young kitchen maid. Staff members have reported feeling a presence in the room, hearing unexplained noises, and seeing objects move on their own.
In the library, visitors have reported seeing the ghostly figure of a man in Georgian-era clothing, believed to be a former owner of the house. Books have been known to fall from shelves inexplicably, and some guests have felt an invisible hand touch their shoulder while browsing the collection.
The Montagu family, who have owned Beaulieu since 1538, have acknowledged these ghostly tales, with some family members claiming to have experienced paranormal events themselves.
