Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh Castle, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Northumberland coast, boasts a rich history dating back to the 6th century. Originally a Celtic fort, it later became an Anglo-Saxon stronghold and Norman stronghold. The castle has witnessed numerous sieges, battles, and royal visits throughout its tumultuous past.

The castle’s paranormal reputation stems from several reported ghostly encounters. One of the most famous spectral residents is the Pink Lady, believed to be the spirit of a young woman who threw herself from the castle walls after her lover was sent on a dangerous sea voyage by her disapproving father. Visitors and staff have reported seeing a pink-hued figure gliding along the battlements or peering from windows, particularly in the castle’s Green Room.

Another frequently reported apparition is that of a medieval soldier, often seen patrolling the castle grounds at night. Witnesses describe hearing the clanking of armor and catching glimpses of a transparent figure dressed in chainmail. Some speculate this could be the ghost of a long-dead guard still performing his duties.

The castle’s kitchen is said to be haunted by the spirit of a young boy who drowned nearby. Staff members have reported hearing inexplicable childlike laughter and the sound of running footsteps when no children are present. Objects in the kitchen have also been known to move inexplicably.

In the castle’s library, visitors have reported sensing an unseen presence and experiencing sudden temperature drops. Some claim to have seen books moving on their own or pages turning without human intervention.
