Ashton Hall

Ashton Hall

Ashton Hall, a grand manor house in Lancashire, England, dates back to the 14th century. Once home to the Hoghton family, the hall has witnessed centuries of history and accumulated its fair share of ghostly tales. One of the most persistent stories involves the spirit of Lady Dorothy, who is said to have been locked away in a small room by her family due to her love for a commoner. Visitors and staff have reported hearing her mournful cries echoing through the halls.

Another well-documented apparition is that of a young boy, believed to be the son of a former servant. Witnesses have described seeing him playing in the gardens or running through the corridors, only to vanish when approached. The sound of childish laughter has also been heard in empty rooms.

In the great hall, the ghostly figure of a cavalier from the English Civil War has been spotted on numerous occasions. Some accounts describe him pacing back and forth, as if standing guard or waiting for something.

The kitchen area is said to be haunted by the spirit of a former cook who died in a fire. Staff members have reported feeling sudden cold spots and smelling phantom smoke when no fire is burning.

Perhaps the most chilling encounter at Ashton Hall involves the “Green Lady,” a spectral figure seen floating through the long gallery. Her identity remains unknown, but her appearances are often accompanied by an overwhelming sense of sadness and loss.
