Allum Hall
Allum Hall, located in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, dates back to the 16th century. This Grade II listed building has a rich history, serving as a private residence for centuries before becoming a community center in the 1950s. The hall’s Tudor architecture and sprawling grounds have made it a local landmark.
Over the years, Allum Hall has gained a reputation for paranormal activity. Staff and visitors have reported numerous unexplained occurrences. One of the most frequently encountered spirits is that of a young woman in Victorian-era clothing, often seen wandering the upper floors and gazing out of windows. Witnesses describe her as having a sad, wistful expression.
Another recurring apparition is that of a man in 18th-century attire, believed to be a former owner of the property. He has been spotted in the main hall and library, sometimes appearing to browse the bookshelves before vanishing.
The sound of children’s laughter and running footsteps have been heard echoing through empty corridors, particularly in the east wing of the building. Some visitors have reported feeling a hand tugging on their clothing when no one is nearby.
In the basement area, staff members have experienced sudden cold spots and the sensation of being watched. Objects have been known to move on their own, and doors have been seen opening and closing without explanation.
During renovation work in the 1990s, workers reported tools going missing and reappearing in different locations, as well as unexplained knocking sounds coming from inside the walls.
